My cabbage patch completely disappeared overnight thanks to a groundhog I named Greta

That line about "disappeared overnight" got me. My buddy Jim had a huge patch of peppers he was babying all summer. One morning he went out and they were just gone, stems chewed clean to the ground. Turns out a family of groundhogs had moved in under his shed, and they even had a favorite pepper they'd drag back to the burrow. He never did catch em, just built a taller fence and started calling them the "pepper thieves.

Oh man, @terry_wood51, that EXACT same thing happened to me with my tomatoes last summer.

Oh man, those pepper thieves sound like they had a whole system going! I had a similar deal with a family of raccoons one year. They figured out how to unscrew the latch on my compost bin and would help themselves to all the kitchen scraps, leaving a huge mess every morning. But then one night I watched them actually roll a whole watermelon right out of my garden patch and down the driveway. They'd even stop to take turns pushing it along, like they had a plan. The fence really is the only answer once they know where the good stuff is.
