The Tuesday I broke down crying in the frozen food aisle
I was just trying to grab a bag of peas, but then I saw the bag of frozen chicken wings we used to split on game nights... I stood there for 10 minutes before a store clerk asked if I was okay. Has anyone else had a random errand totally wreck their whole day?

Walked into the grocery store feeling fine and five minutes later I'm sobbing over a bag of frozen fish sticks because it reminded me of my dad's terrible cooking. I could practically taste the burnt edges and feel the grease dripping off them. The clerk asked if I needed help and I just mumbled something about missing burnt fish sticks. Pretty sure they thought I was having a full on mental breakdown right there by the frozen pizzas. So yeah, you're not alone in this weird frozen food aisle therapy situation.

Oh man, that cashier probably went home and told their partner about the weirdo crying over fish sticks. But here's the thing that gets me - was it the actual taste you missed, or more like the whole experience of sitting at that table with your dad eating something he actually tried to make? Like I know for me it's never really about the food itself, it's about who was there and how it made you feel even if the food was terrible. Were you close with your dad or was it more complicated than that? Sometimes grief hits you weird in the most random places and your brain just picks something small to latch onto.
