The microwave trick for stuck-on egg yolk was a game changer for me

I got sick of scrashing crusted egg yolk off my plates every morning. So last week I tried heating the plate for 30 seconds with a wet paper towel on top before washing. It loosened everything way faster than my usual soak in hot water. But then I read online that the microwave can mess with dish soap's grease cutting power if you heat the soap itself. So is this shortcut actually helpful or am I just ruining my soap's performance? Has anyone else tested this trick side by side without the microwave?

Honestly I was a doubter too. Used to think microwaving plates was some weird internet fad that would just make my kitchen smell like burnt egg. But then I tried it on a plate that had been sitting overnight with scrambled egg crusted on it. Thirty seconds with a damp paper towel and that stuff practically fell off with a gentle rinse. As for the soap thing, I tested it on a separate pan where I microwaved some soap residue by accident and didn't notice any difference in cleaning power. So I'm sold on the trick now, just don't nuke the soap directly and you're fine.

The first time I tried the microwave trick was on a ceramic mug that had dried coffee crusted inside that I'd let sit for three days. I put a wet paper towel in there for 45 seconds and the whole ring wiped off without scrubbing. For the soap part I actually ran a test with a greasy pan where I left a little dish soap on it before microwaving. The pan came out the same as when I just rinsed it normally. So yeah, the steam does all the work and the soap is just a distraction. Been doing it ever since.
