Am I the only one who thinks a cheap local SIM card beats a fancy global eSIM every time?

I just spent a month in Lisbon and tried both. I paid $45 for a global eSIM plan that gave me 5GB and was constantly slow, dropping to 3G in my apartment. Then I bought a local Vodafone Portugal SIM for 15 euros at a corner store. It gave me 10GB of 5G data that was fast everywhere, plus local calls. The setup took five minutes and the store clerk helped me. The global plan felt like a tax for being lazy. Why pay more for worse service when the local option is right there? Has anyone else made the switch and found it way better for actually getting work done?

Global plans are a total scam, local is always faster.

Honestly, I was the person who always bought the global eSIM for the convenience. But my last trip to Italy was a wake-up call. I was trying to send simple emails and it kept timing out. Switched to a local TIM card for like ten euros and suddenly I had perfect service on a fast train through the countryside. Why was I paying a premium to struggle?
