Thought AI art was just a gimmick, then I saw a piece that changed my mind

Always thought AI art was just weird, soulless stuff. Saw a piece called 'Neon Rain' at a gallery in Portland last month. The artist used an AI base, then painted over it for like 40 hours. The texture and detail were insane, way beyond what I thought was possible. Anyone else seen AI art that actually felt real?

The AI just did the first draft" is my whole point.

Ever tried moving a painting that's half digital, half physical? The packing is a nightmare. Parker_sullivan has it right, the AI just made the first draft. But that first draft can spark something a human artist would never think to start on their own. The real work, and the real value, is in those 40 hours of hand painting. That's what makes it art, not just a printout.

Wait, but isn't that just a normal painting then? The AI just did the first draft.
