Just realized my art was getting lost in busy backgrounds
I spent three hours last night reworking a piece because the background pattern was way too loud, swallowing up the main character. It's been my biggest mistake for months now, using complex textures behind detailed subjects. Has anyone else found that simpler backgrounds make your work pop more?

Right? Took me way too long to learn that my characters weren't the problem, my backgrounds were just screaming over them. Think my brain treats every part of the canvas like it needs to be the main event.

Meant to comment on that earlier, it's the values that are fighting, not the elements.
