TIL most guys are tuning their 6.7 Powerstrokes completely wrong on the EGTs
I was at a diesel meetup in Raleigh last Saturday and watched this dude with a '19 F-350 keep hammering it while his pyro was reading 1450 for like 10 seconds straight. He thought that was normal because his tuner guy told him it was fine. My own truck has 180k miles and I learned the hard way after cooking a turbo at 132k that you gotta stay under 1250 for more than a few seconds. Anyone else see people just ignoring their exhaust temps at the track or on pulls?

I've been running a tuned 6.7 for about 4 years now and honestly I think a lot of this EGT panic is overblown. My tuner has been doing this for 15 years and he says 1450 is fine for short bursts as long as you're not holding it there for a full minute. I've hit 1500 on hard pulls and my truck still runs like a champ at 90k miles. Not saying you should sit at 1450 all day but a few seconds isn't gonna kill anything. Most guys get scared because they read horror stories online but real world testing shows these motors are tougher than people give em credit for.

90k miles isnt that much dude, wait till 200k @parker_park8 and see if that 1500 burnt your pistons.
