Vent: The girl who talked about her ex for 45 minutes straight at Chili's

So I went on this date last Saturday with someone I met on an app. We agreed to meet at the Chili's off the highway, nothing fancy but whatever. She starts off normal, ordering a margarita but then after like 10 minutes she brings up her ex. Then she goes into a full story about how they broke up 6 months ago because he wouldn't commit. I tried steering the conversation to movies or her job but she kept circling back to him. After 45 minutes of this I just said I had to go because my stomach hurt. I used to think I could power through bad dates but now I just bail after 20 minutes if it's awful. Has anyone else dealt with someone who clearly wasn't over their ex on a date?

In my experience you actually dodged a bullet - at least she was honest about not being over him early on instead of hiding it for months. Your mileage may vary but that kind of upfront baggage is a favor to you.

Waiting a bit and letting them process stuff on their own worked for me. It sucks in the moment but having some space actually helped her figure out what she wanted without me being in the middle of it.
