Rant: My date brought his mom along, but I'm seeing a trend towards more independent setups.
Honestly, it was super awkward when she ordered for him. Tbh, lately I've noticed more people planning solo dates, which feels like progress.

Actually, the original post said she ordered for him, not just ordered his food. There's a big difference between picking something from the menu and literally speaking for him to the server. That's next-level control. I get why solo dates are trending, you need room to actually talk.

That moment she ordered his food says it all. It's good to see more people choosing to meet on their own terms now. Real connection needs that kind of space to start.

Yeah, that's a major red flag for sure (I had a similar thing happen once, honestly). What worked for me was getting super clear in the planning texts, like "Looking forward to meeting you for coffee on Saturday" to set the tone it's a one-on-one thing. If they push back or suggest bringing a friend, you know right away it's not a match. It saves you from the awkward sit-down where you're suddenly on a group date you didn't sign up for.
