My date insisted we split the bill, then left me with the whole $120 check
He went to the bathroom and never came back, and the restaurant wouldn't let me leave without paying. Has anyone else been straight-up ditched like that?

Set a coffee or drinks limit on first dates, seriously. I learned that the hard way after a $90 "dinner" where she ordered the most expensive thing and barely talked to me. Now I just say "I'm covering the first round" and see how it goes from there.

Okay but why did you let it get to a $120 check on a first date? That's a lot of money to risk with someone you don't know. Splitting is normal, but maybe start with coffee so you're not out a huge amount if they bail.
