Learned the "three drink limit" rule after a disastrous date at a Thai place in Portland

So I was on this date about 2 years ago, met this girl from a dating app at a Thai restaurant on Hawthorne. I was nervous, kept ordering Singha beers to calm down. By the time the food came I was on my fifth one. I started rambling about my cat's digestive issues, then tried to kiss her goodbye and missed her face entirely. She texted later saying I seemed too drunk to drive home (she was right). After that I made a rule for myself: no more than three drinks on any first date, and one of those has to be water. Has anyone else had to set hard limits like that for yourself?

Ngl I did almost the same thing but with margaritas at a taco spot. Three drink limit is law now.

Wait, are you telling me I'm not the only one who had to learn the hard way that all-you-can-drink deals are basically a trap? I swear, the first time I did bottomless mimosas at brunch I nearly got myself banned from the restaurant. The waitress kept giving me this look like "ma'am, you've had four, please stop." Now I just stick to two and a water chaser. It's like my liver upgraded to a VIP pass for regret.
