What if I picked the early flight instead of the late one?
Last Friday I had to choose between a 6am flight out of Atlanta or a 9pm red-eye. I went with the early one to save $50, thinking I'd just nap on the plane. But I ended up sitting on the tarmac for 3 hours due to a maintenance delay, missing my morning meeting anyway. Has anyone else had a 'savings' backfire like that?

Oh man, that's the universe punishing you for trying to be financially responsible. @the_troy, looks like we've all been there - sometimes the cheaper option just buys you a front row seat to a headache.

Oh man, I did something similar with a red-eye from Atlanta once. Picked the cheaper 11pm flight to save $40, figured I'd sleep through it. Instead I got stuck next to a guy who snored louder than my lawnmower and a baby who screamed the whole time. Ended up paying $60 for coffee to stay awake for my meeting the next day. Realized my "savings" just bought me a worse headache and a lesson in math failure.
