Just realized how much my local diner's breakfast plate shrunk over 2 years

I go to Joe's Diner on Main Street about once a month. Two years ago their country breakfast came with 3 eggs, 4 strips of bacon, and a pile of home fries. Yesterday I got 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, and maybe half the potatoes. Price stayed the same at $11.99. My buddy who works there said they switched suppliers after the old one raised prices. Has anyone else noticed portions shrinking at places you've been going to for years?

Yeah it's happening everywhere now, I noticed the same thing at my spot when they swapped to cheaper bacon that's basically all fat. Idk if it's shrinkflation or just cutting corners to stay afloat.

Double check what shrinkflation actually means. It's when the package gets smaller but the price stays the same, not when the quality drops. What you're describing is just them switching to a cheaper product to save money. Still frustrating either way, but they're different things.

At my local diner they switched to that Sysco pre-sliced bacon last month and it's basically 50% white streaks now. I started asking for it well done and that helps some of the fat render out so it's not like chewing on a rubber band. Another trick I picked up is to hit the spot right when they open or during the slow afternoon shift. Those cooks tend to actually pick through the pile and grab the better pieces for you. You ever try asking them to double fry it?
