Appreciation post: My car's battery died in a grocery store parking lot last Tuesday and a stranger's jump start made me realize how much we rely on small kindness.
After my old Honda Civic wouldn't start with a cart full of frozen food, a guy in a Ford F-150 saw me looking lost and used his jumper cables to get me going in under 10 minutes, which got me thinking, what if we all carried a basic tool like that just to help out?

Keep jumper cables in your trunk, always.

Learned that one the hard way last winter. Solid advice.

Yeah, "keep jumper cables in your trunk" is good, but you gotta check them once in a while too. I opened my trunk last fall and found mine were all corroded (the terminals were just a mess). So now I keep them in one of those cheap grocery tote bags to keep them dry. It's one of those things you forget about until you really need it.
