A chat with my sister about her old car made me think differently
She said she keeps it because 'what if I need to help someone move?' It hit me that I always think about what could go wrong, not what could go right. Anyone else have a small 'what if' that changed how they see things?

That's a really good point about planning for the good what ifs. My whole life is basically built around bad ones. I keep an umbrella in my car every single day, rain or shine. But do I ever keep a picnic blanket in there for a surprise nice day? Of course not. My brain is only set up for doom. Maybe I should throw a blanket in the trunk and see what happens.

It's funny how we plan for bad "what ifs" but not the good ones. I always pack an extra charger in case my phone dies, but I never bring a book in case I get some quiet time. Your sister's car is a perfect example of being ready for a chance to be useful. We could all stand to make a little more room for those positive possibilities.

My friend Mark keeps a frisbee in his back seat. Last week he got stuck in crazy traffic by the park, so he just pulled over and threw it around for twenty minutes. Said it turned a frustrating delay into the best part of his day. He swears by keeping that one silly thing ready to go. It's such a small thing, but it totally changed his mood.
