Got locked out of my own server for 8 hours over a typo in a config file

Tbh, I was setting up a new firewall rule on my home server last week. I meant to block a single port but typed the wrong IP range by one digit. The rule saved and instantly cut off my remote access. I spent the whole afternoon driving back to check the physical console, then another 3 hours tracing the mistake in the rule set. Has anyone else wasted a day on a simple config error like that?

Eight hours for one typo? I mean, how much actual work were you missing out on during that time. Seems like a long time to fix a single line in a config file once you had physical access.

Ugh, that's rough. But honestly, I kind of see it as a good lesson? Like, @margaret99, I get it's painful, but those big mess-ups make you triple-check everything later. I once deleted a whole user folder by mixing up a command. It took forever to fix, but now I'm so careful. Maybe it's just me, but that panic sticks with you and makes you better.
