Starting out, a rude customer was over by 5 PM. Today their complaint is still up at midnight.
You could clock out and forget about it. Now I see reviews pop up hours later, and managers expect instant fixes. It's exhausting.

Yeah, the customer service thing is a real issue... but what Brooke said about problems needing to be solved in real time isn't the only way it happens. For me, the midnight complaints that ruin unwinding are just as often personal. It's like a friend picking that quiet time to dump all their drama on you with a long text. That forces you into problem-solving mode when you should be resting... and it feels just as invasive as a work email. So the "always on" pressure isn't just from bosses or customers anymore, it's from everyone.

Yeah, I was just reading something about how the "always on" thing for customer service has gotten way worse. The article said there's this weird expectation now that problems get solved in real time, even outside business hours. It really does make it impossible to actually clock out and disconnect, which just burns people out fast. Like, your brain never gets to switch off from work mode.
