Pro tip: That $12 label maker saved my sanity today

I finally caved and bought a cheap label maker after dealing with a customer who screamed at me for mixing up two nearly identical file boxes. For $12 from Target, I labeled every shelf in the back office and haven't had a single mix-up since. Anyone else find a small purchase that made their job way easier?

My $30 label maker from Amazon just sits in a drawer collecting dust now. Honestly, I think throwing labels on everything can make the problem worse in the long run. People get too dependent on the labels and stop actually paying attention to what they're grabbing (you know, basic reading skills). Then when a label falls off or gets smudged, you're right back to square one with the same mix-ups. I'd rather spend that $12 on a training session or a better filing system that doesn't rely on tiny pieces of adhesive.

Isn't it funny how we think organizing stuff means buying gadgets instead of actually changing the way we do things... I see this with people buying fancy bins and baskets too, they just end up hiding the mess instead of dealing with it.

Right, because spending thirty bucks on a label maker and then letting it sit in a drawer is clearly the superior way to save your sanity. I get it, labels can fall off and then you're back to guessing which box is which, but that's still a better option than the customer screaming at you because you handed them the wrong file. Maybe we should just train customers to read their own labels too, that'll go over well. But hey, whatever helps people feel like they're actually solving the problem instead of just covering it with a sticker. Your $30 Amazon special is probably doing a lot of good just sitting there in the dark.
