inBeen eyeballing my swing radius for years, turns out I was off by a solid foot
Most guys forget the chart is for a clean, flat surface. Throw in a slight slope or some loose gravel under your outriggers, and your pivot point shifts. That extra inch of sink on one side can add six inches to your swing radius at bumper height. I've seen it happen. Now I always do a quick walk around to check the ground before I even pull the chart out.

inA customer at my shop in Boise told me to never use a torque wrench on carbon parts
Wow, that's wild. Carbon needs a precise touch that even a good feel can't match, and those specs exist for a reason. That guy is gambling with a very expensive part.

inMy climbing rope hit 500 feet of use and I had to retire it
Wait, 500 feet is just distance traveled, not a real wear metric. The age and how it was used matters way more.

inTried being overly nice to a rude customer for a whole shift, and it completely backfired
What makes you think being nice backfired? That guy was going to be angry no matter what you did. The problem is that "my pleasure" can sound robotic and insincere, especially if you're saying it on autopilot. A flat, neutral tone works better for defusing anger than overly cheerful customer service phrases.

inA guy at a lumberyard in Spokane showed me a trick for checking a board's crown
Sight down the edge like he said, that's the real deal. I also flip the board over and look at the other side, because sometimes one edge lies to you. If it looks straight from both sides, you're good. That old guy was right, your eyes don't need batteries.
