Just got screamed at by a lady over a 50 cent coupon at Target in Orlando

I work the customer service desk at a Target in Orlando and this woman comes up holding a wrinkled coupon for 50 cents off some granola bars. She's already bought the stuff and wants her cash back plus the coupon discount applied after the fact. I explain that we can't do that since the transaction is closed and she loses it. She starts yelling about how I'm stealing her money and calls me a scam artist right in front of a line of people. Her face was bright red and she was waving the receipt around like a weapon. The manager came over and just refunded her the 50 cents to shut her up which I get but it felt bad. Has anyone else had a customer go nuclear over a tiny amount of money like that?

Actually I gotta correct one small thing here. You said she wanted the coupon discount applied after the fact, but Target's policy actually lets you do a price adjustment within 14 days if you bring the receipt and the coupon. So technically she could've gotten the 50 cents back if she had asked nicely. But yeah the way she handled it was completely out of line. I work at the customer service desk at a different Target in Tampa and I've seen people freak out over like 20 cents before. One guy screamed at me for ten minutes because his total was 19.01 and he only had a 20 and I couldn't break the penny for him. It's wild how some people act like that kind of small change is life or death money.

Man, some people really lose it over pocket change. It's like they forget the cashier didn't invent the store's policy, they just work there. Throwing a fit over 50 cents or a penny is just embarrassing for everyone involved. I get being frustrated but yelling at some random employee isn't gonna change anything. Honestly, if that 50 cents matters that much, maybe don't shop at Target.
