Had a customer scream at me for 20 minutes over a 50 cent coupon glitch

I work at a grocery store in Phoenix and this lady last Tuesday wanted to use a digital coupon for organic eggs. Her phone wouldn't load the app, so she blamed me for not honoring it and went on a rant about how I was ruining her whole shopping trip. I learned that some people will go absolutely nuts over half a dollar, and now I just call a manager right away when someone starts yelling.

Yelling at a grocery worker over a 50 cent coupon is wild, I've definitely been that broke before though. Calling the manager is the pro move, let them deal with the crazy while you go hide in the back and count the seconds until your shift ends. Some people act like saving fifty cents is the same as winning the lottery, just with more screaming involved.

Sounds like she was probably already having a rough day and just took it out on you, which still isn't fair but makes sense. Half a buck can feel like a lot when you're on a tight budget and things keep going wrong. Calling the manager right away is smart though, that's exactly what you should do.
