Hot take: A protest at my college library made me stop trying to change people's minds online

I was at the University of Michigan last fall, watching two groups yell at each other for an hour. It clicked that nobody was listening, they were just waiting to talk. Now I just state my view once and move on, because real change doesn't happen in comment sections. Anyone else just given up on online debates?

I've been doing the same thing for about a year now. Post my two cents on a topic and close the app. Patb12 is right, it's just different groups talking past each other. I used to get into long fights in the replies and it never changed a single mind.
