Got yelled at in a coffee shop in Denver for putting cream in first
I was at this local spot on Colfax last Saturday, grabbing my usual drip coffee. Barista hands it to me, I go to the little station, and I pour my cream in before the coffee even settles. This guy behind me, total stranger, goes 'You're ruining the balance, you know that?' in this loud, judgmental voice. I just stood there holding my cup, not sure if he was joking or dead serious. Turns out there's this whole debate about cream first vs cream second, like it changes the temperature or the flavor or something. I've been drinking coffee for 15 years and never once thought about it. Now I'm wondering, is there actually a right way to do this or are people just making up rules to feel superior? Has anyone else gotten roasted over something this silly in public?

Jump right into the thing that bugs me about this. This is just another example of people turning a simple personal preference into a RULE that everyone else has to follow, like how you're not supposed to put ketchup on a hot dog if you're from Chicago. I swear people make up these tiny rituals just so they can feel like experts on something. The cream first thing is especially dumb because it's YOUR coffee, you're the one drinking it, not the guy behind you. It reminds me of how people freak out if you put steak sauce on a well done steak, like buddy, I'm the one eating it, leave me alone. Don't let that dude get in your head, just enjoy your coffee however you want.

Haha "buddy I'm the one eating it" - that line kills me @christopher_sullivan. Seriously though the coffee police are the worst. Like ok congratulations you poured the milk in the cup before the coffee, do you want a medal or something? I stir it with the wrong end of the spoon too just to really piss off the experts. People gotta find something to gatekeep I guess.
