Am I the only one who thinks 'learn to code' went from solid advice to a total meme in like 6 years
In 2018 I saw a laid off warehouse guy in my town get a Java cert and land $62k within months, but last week a laid off friend tried the same path and 400 people applied to the same junior listing, so I think we broke the ladder we told everyone to climb.
Did you see that viral post from a recruiter last month saying she got 1200 apps for one entry level dev job in like 48 hours? I read a thread where people were saying bootcamps oversold the dream and now the market is flooded with the same resume. My cousin did a 12 week bootcamp in 2021 and got hired at a startup, but his cohort's Slack is basically a graveyard now. Even CS grads I know are applying to help desk jobs just to pay rent, which would've been unthinkable a few years back. The ladder didn't just break, we handed out a million tickets to climb it and then removed half the rungs.
