Heard a guy at the bus stop in Cleveland say the moon landing footage was shot in a studio because the shadows were wrong.

Honestly, it made me go look at the actual NASA photos, and the shadows are totally consistent with a single light source. Has anyone else had a casual comment send them down a rabbit hole like that?

People just repeat stuff they heard somewhere else without checking. It's a lazy way to sound smart. The world is full of confident nonsense.

Most conversations are just casual talk, not a court of law. It's okay to share an idea without a full fact check.

Ugh, this is so true! My friend was telling me about a "fact" she heard, that you swallow eight spiders a year in your sleep. She said it with total confidence at a party. I had to look it up later and it's a total myth, made up to show how fake news spreads. It made me think of what @the_cole said about confident nonsense. She just heard it from someone else and repeated it without a second thought. It's wild how these things stick around.
