Had a weird moment at a family BBQ when my cousin brought up the moon landing
We were in my backyard in Cincinnati, grilling burgers. My cousin started saying the whole Apollo 11 footage was filmed in a studio. I just asked him which specific part looked fake to him. He pointed at the flag waving, so I pulled up a quick video on my phone explaining the rigid flagpole. It got quiet for a second before he changed the subject. What's the best way you've found to handle these talks without starting a fight?

Feel for you on that one. I mean, those talks can get so awkward so fast. You handled it way better than I would have.

Honestly, what is my usual move? I just start talking WAY too fast and then forget my own name. Total word-vomit disaster. My brain just checks out the second things get quiet. So yeah, you saying I handled it well is a huge compliment, because my natural state is pure panic.

Yeah, the quiet part is the worst. I just started asking really simple questions about their day to fill the space... it gives you a second to breathe. Takes the pressure off having to say something smart.
