Used to fight with old band masks for 20 minutes before every dive
Back when I started in the Gulf, I'd spend forever spitting in my mask and rinsing it just to stop the fog. Last week I switched to a cheap defogger spray I got for $8 and it cleared up my whole morning crew's masks in 30 seconds flat. Anyone else ditch the old spit trick for something easier?

Five bucks says the old timers in my shop still swear by the spit method like it's some kind of sacred ritual. I watched a guy spend a full three minutes hocking a loogie into his mask last Tuesday, then another two minutes rinsing it off, and it still fogged up on his first breath. The $8 spray bottle from the hardware store works better than any of that nonsense, and I don't have to taste last night's coffee in my regulator anymore. The best part is watching them grumble about "wasting money on gimmicks" while I'm already in the water laughing at them from below.

Aw man, @thomas.tyler, I gotta push back a little here... I'm one of those guys who still uses spit sometimes and honestly it works fine for me if you do it right. Like yeah, if somebody's hocking loogies for three minutes that's just nasty and wasteful, but a quick smear of fresh spit on the glass before a dive and a quick dip in the water? That's always kept my mask clear for a full tank. I've tried those spray bottles too and they left weird streaks on my lens that made everything blurry halfway through the dive. Different strokes for different folks I guess, but I'll take my free method over buying something that might not work any better.

I get it works for some, but I've had way less hassle with a quick spray of commercial anti-fog.
