Just got burned by an old timer's advice on a deep water job
Old Salty Pete told me to use a standard Kirby Morgan band mask for my first 150-foot dive off the coast of Galveston, said it's all you need. The damn thing fogged up so bad I couldn't see my gauges and had to abort the job 20 minutes in. Anyone else get led astray by someone who's been diving since the 80s and won't update their gear?

100 bucks says Pete's still using deodorant soap too. That stuff kills a mask worse than anything. He probably has a spare O-ring from the Reagan era in his kit.

...and I saw this video where a guy tested different soaps on mask seals. Dawn dish soap barely did anything after a month, but Irish Spring? That rubber was dry and cracked in like two weeks. The deodorant soap thing is real, the chemicals eat away at the silicone. I bet Pete's got a 1987 Coleman rebuild kit in there with the O-ring that looks like a fossil.
