The day I stopped reading reviews and just judged a comic by its cover worked out
Had 20 minutes to grab something at the shop before closing and picked a random issue based on the art alone, which turned out to be the best Batman story I've read in 5 years - has anyone else had a blind buy actually pay off?

Wait, isnt this how most good things actually happen in life? I swear the best movies Ive seen were ones I knew nothing about and the best meals were random menu picks. I think we overthink everything now because of all the reviews and ratings out there. My last blind buy was some weird indie comic with a guy riding a giant squirrel on the cover. Turned out to be this killer fantasy story about a delivery service in a magical world. Sometimes trusting your gut feels way better than reading 50 opinions first.

Oh, you're really gonna defend blind buying now? Because I just spent $8 on a comic that looked incredible (neon samurai on a motorcycle, how could that miss?) and it was literally unreadable - like, the art was great but the story was a mess of vague dialogue and plot holes you could drive a truck through. @hannahw30, I get the romance of the random pick, but for every gem you find there's probably three duds waiting to waste your money. I still check reviews for any book over $5 because my wallet can't afford to be that adventurous anymore, especially after that time I grabbed a horror comic based on a creepy cover and it turned out to be a poorly drawn gore fest with zero actual scares.
