Serious question, does bad art ruin a good comic story or is that just me being picky?
I was at my local shop in Portland last Tuesday flipping through a new issue of some indie book. The writing was top notch, deep characters, cool plot twists. But the art looked like a 12 year old drew it in 10 minutes. I put it back on the shelf. My buddy grabbed it and said I was missing out. So which side are you on? Can a great story survive ugly drawings, or does the art make or break the whole thing for you too?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling right? (And I say this as someone who once thought they could draw a comic in high school, turns out stick figures don't count). I'm on the art side, at least to a point. I swear if the faces look like stretched out clay and the action scenes are just blurry smudges I can't get past the first page, no matter how good the writing is. There's this one horror comic I tried, the story was genuinely creepy but the characters all had eyes on the sides of their heads like a fish, totally killed the mood. So yeah, bad art can definitely ruin a good story for me, I'm with you on that.

Fish have eyes on the sides of their heads, actually helps them see predators coming from every direction.
