Had to choose between omnibus editions or single issues for my X-Men collection

Last month I finally had to pick between going all in on the Claremont omnibuses or sticking with my single issues I've been grabbing from my local shop in Austin for years. The omnibuses look so nice on the shelf and you get the whole story without hunting down back issues. But I went with singles because I love the feeling of bagging them myself and the smell of old paper. Plus my buddy Dave said his omni spine cracked after one read and that scared me off. So far I've filled about 60 issues of Uncanny and it feels better than I thought. Has anyone else faced this choice and regretted not going the other way?

My local record shop faces the same choice with vinyl vs. CDs.

You know, I used to think the omnibuses were the only smart way to go. I figured bigger was always better and you get the whole story in one package. But a few years back I bought my first omni, the Simonson Thor, and the spine glue gave out on the third read. Now I'm strictly single issues. There is just something honest about holding each little pamphlet in your hands.

Last vinyl vs. CDs brings back memories. Had a buddy who swore his records sounded warmer but his cat scratched up the whole Jefferson Airplane collection. He switched to CDs after that.
