After three years of fighting it, I finally bought a proper inspection camera
I always thought my mirror and flashlight were good enough for checking flues, but last month I missed a serious crack in a clay liner on a big job in Springfield. The homeowner called back with a leak, and I had to eat the repair cost, about $400. That stung. So I bit the bullet and dropped around $800 on a good, long inspection camera with a light on the end. Used it yesterday on a routine cleaning and spotted a bird nest starting way up in a chimney I would have sworn was clear. It took me five minutes to fish it out instead of the customer having a fire hazard later. I feel like an idiot for waiting so long. Has anyone else had a tool they resisted buying that ended up being a total game changer?

Remember the old guys who swore by chalk lines until laser levels got cheap. They fought it for years, calling it a toy. Now you don't see a job without one. Your camera is the same deal, a basic upgrade that just makes the old way look stubborn.

So @paige427 is right, that camera probably just saved your ass down the line. And I'll be honest, I used to think a good flashlight was enough too, but now I see it's just being lazy and calling it efficient.
