Trim job in Tulsa went sideways when the homeowner's dog got loose
I was finishing a 3 bedroom stretch in Tulsa last Tuesday when their lab ran through the hallway and planted a paw right in my fresh seam. I grabbed my seaming iron and a damp rag, re-taped it, and let it cool for 20 minutes before I even touched it again. Has anyone else had a pet mess up a seam and did you re-stretch or just patch it?
My last dog was a 90 pound mutt who thought every carpet install was his personal wrestling mat, so I feel your pain on a deep level. Funny thing is, the pets always seem to find the one wet seam in the whole house like they have a radar for it. Your move with the iron and damp rag was smart, that's exactly what I would have done instead of panicking. I've had good luck with just re-taping and re-seaming in those cases, as long as the backing didn't get torn up or stretched too bad. A full re-stretch is a pain and usually not needed unless the paw actually pulled the carpet off the tack strip. Take that with a grain of salt since every carpet and every dog is different, but you probably saved yourself a headache.
