That $60 seam roller I bought online was a total bust
I figured a cheap seam roller would do the same thing as the expensive ones. Used it on a job in Toledo last Tuesday and the handle snapped off halfway through rolling a seam. Ended up having to borrow a roller from the homeowner to finish the room. Has anyone else had better luck with the metal handled ones or am I just buying the wrong kind?

I used to think a roller was just a roller and you were paying for the name, not the tool. Then I picked up a cheap one from a hardware store in Toledo actually, and the handle split right where the metal meets the plastic on the third seam. Borrowed a metal handled one from a buddy the next day and it's been fine for months now. So yeah, I'd say the metal ones are worth it if you're doing more than one room. The plastic ones just can't take the pressure when you're really leaning into it.

Man I saw this coming from a mile away. Read a blog post from a flooring pro last month who said the plastic handled rollers are basically disposable and you're lucky if you get a whole house out of them before something cracks. The metal ones are heavier but they won't leave you stranded mid-job. Did you keep the receipt or just chalk it up as a lesson learned?
