I bought a fancy laser level for carpet seams and it was a total dud

Spent about $80 on it thinking it would make my lines perfect every time. The thing just couldn't handle the texture of the pad, so the beam was all over the place. Anyone have a reliable, old-school method they still use for tricky seams?

Ugh, same here. I swore by tech until a chalk line and two tacks saved my last job.

My grandpa's old framing square has a notch for calculating roof pitch that's more reliable than any app I've tried. The tech always needs updates or loses signal, but that piece of steel just works. It's like the simple tools have all the common problems already solved. You can't beat that kind of tested knowledge.
