That conversation with a recruiter at a coffee shop on Main Street stuck with me
I was grabbing coffee near the downtown plaza last fall and ended up sharing a table with a recruiter from a mid-size tech firm. She told me straight up that 90% of resumes she sees get ignored because applicants don't list specific numbers or results. She said something like 'nobody cares you managed a team, they care if you cut turnover by 20 percent.' Has anyone else had a hiring person give them a blunt tip like that?

100% true. I had a resume that was basically a wall of text with bullet points listing my duties and I got ZERO callbacks for months. Then I redid the whole thing with big numbers and results like "cut processing time by 40%" and suddenly I got interviews left and right. Recruiters are just scanning for anything that pops off the page, they don't have time to dig through paragraphs of boring job descriptions. The 6 second rule is real, I watched a recruiter friend actually time herself once and she spent maybe 4 seconds on a resume that didn't grab her. You gotta make every word count from the very first line or you're just wasting your time.
