Just learned the hard way why you never trust free wifi at airports

I was at LAX last month using the airport wifi to finish a work presentation, and someone copied all my login info from a fake portal. Now I only use my phone's hotspot for anything work-related - has anyone else gotten burned by this?

Yeah, the "fake portal" thing gets me. People think it's just a cheap hotel or coffee shop problem, but I've seen those same fake login screens pop up at big airports and even some mall food courts. It's part of a bigger pattern where everyone assumes free wifi is harmless, like it's some basic service. But really, you're handing over your device's connection to strangers who can scrape everything. I've stopped using any public wifi for anything involving passwords or banking, even the ones that look official. It's like leaving your front door unlocked in a busy city, eventually someone's gonna walk in.
