I finally stopped hating those heavy canvas tents
For years I swore by my cheap nylon tent because it packed down small. But after three trips to Big Sur where condensation soaked everything inside, I borrowed a friend's canvas tent for a weekend. That thing handled rain like a champ and stayed way warmer at night. It's heavy as heck to carry but for car camping I'm totally converted. Anyone else make the switch and never look back?

Three nights in my buddy's canvas tent at Big Sur last spring was when I finally got it. It's like when you stop buying cheap shoes that fall apart in six months and go for the stiff leather boots that actually last. People always chase convenience first but the old heavy stuff works better in the long run, doesn't it.
