That one time a guy brought in a film camera that had been in a flood for 3 weeks

Honestly, this collector walked into my shop in Portland last year with a Leica M3 that was caked in mud and smelled like a swamp. He said he tried to dry it out in his oven and now the shutter won't fire. Has anyone else dealt with someone who did more damage trying to fix it themselves?

I saw a forum post where someone tried to fix a camera with a hairdryer and melted the whole shutter assembly.

A buddy of mine @julia_carter70 tried drying out a wet lens with a hair dryer on high heat once. Ended up warping the plastic housing and fogging up the glass permanently. That thing was a total loss, all because he didn't let it air dry slowly.

Oh COME ON, you guys are being way too dramatic. If you keep the hair dryer on LOW heat and keep it moving, it's literally fine - I've saved like three phones that way and they're still working years later.
