Just logged my 500th shutter replacement and realized something weird
I mean, it's not a huge number maybe, but I noticed over 300 of them were on cameras under five years old. That feels off. Anyone else seeing way more early failures on newer gear?

Heard a camera tech on a podcast say newer shutters are built to cycle faster for burst modes, but the parts wear out quicker. They were talking about thinner metal blades and weaker springs to save weight. Does that match what you're seeing when you open them up?

That tech is right about the parts, but the real trade-off is in the motor design. They're using smaller, faster motors that get much hotter during long bursts. That heat cooks the lubricants over time, making the whole assembly stiffen up. It's not just the blades wearing thin, it's the whole system getting gummed up from the inside.

My old camera's shutter sounds like a sad coffee grinder now.
