Update: a guy in Tulsa showed me his $12 crimper and now I'm torn on whether cheap tools are worth it
I was at a supply house in Tulsa last week and this older installer pulled out a $12 crimper he'd had for 6 years, while my $70 one died after 8 months, so now I can't decide if I got played or if he just got lucky, anyone else flip flop on cheap vs pricier gear?
Did you ever figure out what brand that $12 one was? Because I had almost the same thing happen with a set of wire strippers. Bought a cheap pair at a flea market for like $8, used them for years, then finally splurged on a nice name brand set and the spring popped out in two months. I was SO mad. My buddy says the old cheap stuff was just built better back then and most of the new budget gear is junk, but then you hear about guys getting 10 years out of a harbor freight whatever. It really does feel like a coin flip sometimes.
