I used to leave service loops way too long on every install
Back when I started 4 years ago in Tampa, I'd leave about 6 feet of slack at the ground block and inside the house too... figured more was better. But then my lead tech pointed out it caused signal loss and made the box look messy. Now I trim them to about 18 inches max after crimping the connectors. Anyone else deal with figuring out the right loop length the hard way?

Man, same here! I used to leave loops that looked like I was trying to sell the customer extra cable on the side until my lead got me straight.

Have you ever had a senior tech just come by and show you the right way to do it? That sounds like what happened with my dad when he was teaching me basic home repairs. We learned together that too much extra cable just makes a mess and can cause problems with the signal down the line. These days I go with about 18 inches as well, just enough to work with comfortably without leaving a coil of wire sitting there. It took a few messy jobs to figure out that neat and tidy really does work better in the long run.
