That week I couldn't catch a break with a solid surface countertop

Last Tuesday I had a run of bad luck that made me want to throw my orbital sander across the shop. I was working on a customer's kitchen remodel for a solid surface countertop in a mid-century house over near Oak Park. The first issue was the template was off by a quarter inch because the old walls weren't square, so I had to re-cut the whole backsplash. Then my router bit started chattering on the edge profile and I had to stop and sharpen it twice. To top it off, the adhesive I used started curing too fast in the 90 degree heat and I had to peel the whole thing off and start over. By Friday I was so beat that I forgot to double check the sink cutout and had to shave it down by hand with a file. Anyone else have a job that just fought you every step of the way?

It's wild how sometimes the universe just decides you're gonna earn every inch of progress. Makes you wonder if some projects are cursed from the get-go or if it's just our brains forgetting how much can go wrong until it all does at once.

Used to be the kind of person who thought every project had its own destined smooth path and rough path (like some cosmic lottery). Then I spent four months building a simple raised garden bed that ended up flooding my neighbor's yard twice and somehow attracting a family of raccoons. That experience definitely flipped a switch in my brain, now I'm convinced every little hiccup is just the universe making sure you learn the lesson hard.
