My kitchen knife rolled off the counter and landed blade-up on my bare foot five months ago and now I always tell people to get a magnetic strip instead of a block.

I was in my own kitchen in Phoenix grabbing a towel and the whole block tipped over, the chef knife bounced out, and it stuck straight into the side of my foot right between the bones - $400 ER visit and three stitches later I still have a numb spot, has anyone else had a block fail on them like that?

Heard a story from a buddy back in Austin. Same thing happened to his wife. She reached for a knife in the block and the whole thing just slid off the counter. Landed on her toes. Broke two of them. I switched to a magnetic strip after that. Way safer. No chance of tipping.

Try a wall strip and watch your knives chip on the tile when they vibrate loose.
