TIL my GPS 'shortcut' through downtown Portland cost me 47 minutes

I took what looked like a clever back route to avoid traffic last Thursday, ended up stuck behind a parade and a stalled food cart for nearly an hour. Has anyone else had a 'smart' detour turn into the longest stretch of their week?

Last time I trusted the GPS shortcut I ended up on a road with a giant sinkhole and had to back up a quarter mile in the rain. Now I just sit in traffic and let the map lady yell at me.

GPS shortcuts found me a secret taco truck once. Worth the gamble.
