Just realized I was paying for a gym membership I never used

Honestly, I was looking at my bank statement from the start of the year and saw a $45 charge from 'FitZone' every single month. I signed up in January thinking I'd go after work, but I never did. The thing that tipped me off was my friend asking if I wanted to go for a walk with her, and I said I was too tired from work. She just said 'You pay for a gym, right? Maybe cancel it and just walk with me for free.' It hit me right then. I was throwing over $500 a year at something for the idea of it, not the reality. I called and canceled the next day. Now I put that $45 straight into my savings account instead. Has anyone else had a subscription they forgot about that was just draining cash?

Man, that's such a common trap. I had the same thing with a streaming service I never watched. What finally worked for me was setting a calendar reminder for the day before the charge hits my card each month. It forces me to stop and ask if I actually used it in the last 30 days. If not, I cancel it right then. It feels good to stop the auto-pilot spending and actually decide where my money goes.

My buddy Jake found out he was paying for three different music apps for almost a year. He only ever opened Spotify. He said seeing that total on his bank statement felt like getting slapped.
