Warning: Your 'cheap' flight deal might be costing you more than a direct ticket
I keep seeing posts where people brag about a $200 flight to Europe, but they don't mention the three separate layovers and the $80 bus ride from the secondary airport to the actual city. I just did the math on a trip to Madrid I planned last month. The 'budget' flight was $225, but with two long stops and a $60 train from a distant airport, my total travel time was over 22 hours and cost nearly $300. A direct flight on a different airline was $340 and took 8 hours. People forget to add up all the extra costs and lost time. Has anyone else found that the super cheap flight option ended up being a worse deal overall?

Oh man, you're hitting on the biggest travel trap out there. People get so focused on the ticket price they forget to factor in the cost of their own time and sanity. That extra $100 for a direct flight isn't just buying comfort, it's buying back a full day of your vacation you'd otherwise spend in a plastic airport chair. I've learned the hard way that a cheap flight that leaves you exhausted is the most expensive part of the trip.

My last layover in Denver turned into an unexpected brewery tour with a cool local. Sometimes the journey itself is the fun part, you know?
