My hostel booking app crashed at 2am in Barcelona

I landed in Barcelona last month with a confirmed reservation through a budget booking app but when I got to the hostel at 2am, their system said I had no booking at all. The front desk lady just shrugged and told me they were full for the night, leaving me stranded with my backpack. Has anyone else had a booking app fail them at the worst possible moment and how did you handle it?

This is just how things work now, everything is built on top of garbage layers of tech that break the second you actually need it. Airlines, hotels, even car rentals all use these third party apps that have zero accountability. You had a confirmation number, a payment went through, but the hostel gets to shrug because the app is just a middleman with no real power. The best you can do is call your bank immediately to dispute the charge and then find a 24 hour McDonalds or a late night cafe to sit in until morning when you can sort out a real room.
