My brother swore by the 'free city tour' in Prague, and it actually got us a free lunch.

The guide ended our walk at his friend's restaurant, where they gave everyone a free bowl of soup and a discount. Has anyone else had a tour tip that went way better than expected?

Sounds like a decent trade for your time. Those tours are basically long ads anyway. Not exactly a life changing tip.

Just ask the guide straight up what the best local lunch spot is, not the tourist trap they get a cut from. I got a free bowl of amazing pho in Hanoi once because the guy felt bad I sat through his whole sales pitch. Sometimes they'll even walk you to a good place if you're nice about it.
