Back in 2019 I had the best travel week ever on just $180
I spent a whole week in Lisbon sleeping at a friend's couch and eating mostly tinned fish and bread from Lidl. The highlight was walking up to the Castelo de São Jorge at sunrise with zero crowds and no entry fee because the gate was open. Anyone else have a week where everything just lined up perfectly like that?

Did you sneak through the gate before the workers got there too? Lisbon at sunrise sounds like a solid way to spend almost nothing and get an amazing view.

More like fumbled with the lock for ten minutes hoping no one called the cops on me...

Three euros for a pastel de nata and a coffee at that little bakery near the tram tracks, that's my Lisbon sunrise move right there. I actually got stuck behind a locked gate once at the Miradouro da Graça, had to wait like twenty minutes until some local showed up with a key. @oscarb77, you're totally right about the budget thing though - I've done whole mornings wandering Alfama before anywhere even opens for lunch. The light hits the tiles just right around 7 AM, plus you dodge all the cruise ship crowds that show up later. Just watch out for the downhill cobblestones if you've had one too many natas, trust me on that one.
